Overview

What is The Office of Globalization?

The Office of Globalization is committed to increasing cultural and global awareness, providing intercultural development opportunities for students, and providing study abroad opportunities within the Polytechnic Institute.

The Problem

Polytechnic students are not communicating with the Office of Globalization prior to studying abroad even though they are an integral part of the process.

Our Goal

We approached addressing these gaps through a website design as well as social media strategies, incorporating research insights found through the course of the project.

Problem

An unfocused social media makes it difficult to find relevant information.

Our Design

Three main kinds of social media content.

Problem

Lack of information hierarchy and organization.

Our Design

Implemented an information hierarchy by arranging content by importance.

The Problem

Cluttered and unorganized program page.

Our Design

Reimagined filtering system and program page.

Problem

Students do not know when and how to contact the office and have difficulty navigating the website.

Our Design

Implemented Calls to Action, buttons, etc.

How we got here.

From conducting research to informing our designs.

Project Timeline

Website Redesign

FOCUS Redesign website content to more effectively communicate suitable program options and prompt students to engage with the Office prior to applying to study abroad programs.

Heuristic Evaluation

What are the current problem areas of the Office of Globalization website?

In analyzing the current website, we found an excess of

  • Irrelevant information

  • Overwhelming amounts of text

and a lack of

  • visibility in displaying results

  • visual consistency between pages

Competitive Analysis

Identifying how top university study abroad programs are organizing and disseminating information to students.

Key Attributes

  • Engaging Visuals + Organization

  • Information Hierarchy

  • Search Bar + Simple Filters

Usability Testing

To identify students' motivations, mental model, and overall experience when utilizing the current website.

BEFORE TESTING

  • 5 initial questions

2 TASKS TO PERFORM ON WEBSITE

  • Finding and Searching a Program

POST-TASK QUESTIONS

  • 3 Reflection Questions

Sketching

Begin to visualize our ideas that were identified through research

APPROACH

Arranged components to match with the student journey and commonalities found in competitive analysis

Reduced text-heavy areas and irrelevant information identified in our heuristic evaluation

Moving to Mid-fis

Creating mid-fis to continue to synthesize our research findings, and using mid-fis as a way to visualize disjointed ideas as a whole

Usability Testing on Mid-fis

USER STORY

Setting a scenario for the participant.

TASKS FOR EACH WEBSITE PAGE

Make sure participant can perform each task.

POST-TASK QUESTIONS

Identify successes, frustrations, and/or confusion.

Social Media

Redesign social media content to be more effective in communicating the office's programs, capabilities, and latest news.
