UX Design | August to December 2020
Collaboration with All-Star LLC

All-Star LLC is a startup company focused on creating an app for high school athletes who are in need of assistance in improving in their sport on an individual level. For this specific app, our team focused on baseball athletes, and were tasked with exploring their needs and journey in order to create an mobile and personalized training experience.

My Contributions:

  • Gathering secondary research and synthesizing findings

  • Conducting interviews with various stakeholders

  • Directly communicating with project sponsor

  • Mocking up medium to fidelity screens and flow using Figma

  • Creating pitch deck and value proposition for All-Star to utilize in investor stages

Project Scope

Competitive Analysis

Goal

  1. Assess what current mobile workout platforms and AI platforms are doing well, what they do not do well, and what improvements could be built upon.

  2. Gather a baseline understanding of what user feedback, UI, and the overall experience various platforms are radiating towards their users.

Takeaways & Action Items

Our team used these comparative analysis takeaways to form questions and general ideas to explore as we sketch the app or action items to achieve by the end of the design process. These included:

  1. How can we create a UI where users can easily understand simple interactions and quickly access app features?

  2. What pages do users prioritize or expect? How can we make these features easily accessible?

  3. Include customizable options for users to edit their plans

  4. Consider size of font and attributes

  5. Create options and settings for user control

Talking with People

Having now completed a competitive analysis and secondary research, our team conducted interviews with both athletes and trainers in order to gain an understanding of the needs of high school baseball players, as well as the trainer’s role in conjunction with baseball athletes, and gain insight into workout behavior.

Interview Takeaways

Athletes

  • Everyone has a different body type which results in needing different workouts

  • Emotional state changes throughout seasons, affecting ability to workout

  • Focus and investment depends on what level of experience, age, and dedication they are at

  • Players who are serious need to take additional/individual actions to improve

  • High school levels don’t have a lot of resources in comparison to college

  • Workout intensity/regimen changes based on in-season vs. off-season

Trainers

  • High school students are just beginning to learn more about working out, but there’s no huge push for it

  • Workout plans differ for different age groups

Sketching

From insights gathered from research and interviews, our team developed several sketches that built off our previous ideation throughout our research phase.
